Police on the scene of the fatal shooting of Rohan Masters, who has been identified as a former member of the notorious St Andrew-based Joel Andem gang.

The man who was killed in a drive-by shooting in the Swallowfield area of St Andrew on Friday morning, has been identified.

He is Rohan Masters, a member of the notorious St Andrew-based Joel Andem gang.

Informed sources said Masters was accused of murdering gas station operator, Sylvia Edwards, in July 2000.

He was convicted of the murder in 2003, and was sentenced to life imprisonment, but the conviction was later quashed by the Court of Appeal, which ordered a retrial.

It is reported that Masters was awaiting trial on another case of murder at the time of his death. He reportedly killed a man while he was out on bail awaiting retrial in the Edwards case.

Police reported that about 11:00 a.m., he left the Stadium Police Station and was making his way towards through the Swallowfield community, when he was attacked by a group of men who were travelling in a car.

“Just minutes after he left the police station and was walking on the road, the men drove up to him in a car and opened fire, hitting him several times, then drove away,” an alleged eyewitness told Loop News.

The sound of gunfire in the area drew the attention of a police team, and Masters was found suffering from gunshot wounds.

He was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Sources told Loop News that he went to the police station to report on a condition of his bail.
