Former Cabinet minister, Easton Douglas, is dead

Former Cabinet minister and vice president of the People's National Party (PNP), Easton Douglas, has died.

Douglas, who was 81, died at his St Andrew home on Sunday morning after a long battle with cancer.

He was reportedly hospitalised recently as his condition worsened.

Douglas, who most recently served as chairman of the National Housing Trust (NHT), has held multiple Cabinet portfolios, including housing, land and environment, and health.

He previously served as a permanent secretary and as town planner.

He entered the House of Representative and served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for South East St Andrew.
