Five separate murders in St Andrew South division so far this week
Security presence has been increased in the St Andrew South Police Division where, amid an ongoing state of emergency (SOE), four persons were killed and at least two others left nursing injuries from separate attacks over the last 36 hours.
Additionally, there was another murder in the division on Monday, making it five homicides there so far this week.
In one of the attacks, a 56-year-old security guard who worked at a Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) location was stabbed and then shot by unknown assailants along Marcus Garvey Drive on Wednesday.
The security guard has been identified as Michael Williams, otherwise called ‘Delly’, a resident of Majesty Gardens, St Andrew.
Reports are that about 7.50 am, Williams’ body was found in the community by citizens, who later alerted the police.
Investigators are yet to release any further details on the probe into the development, except to advise that they are yet to establish a motive for the killing.
In another case, a man identified as Roshay Hibbert of a Kidd Lane, Kingston 13 address, was shot and killed by criminals in the Harvey Road area of the St Andrew South Police Division.
A 47-year-old woman of a St Catherine address was also shot and injured in the incident that took place at around 9pm on Wednesday.
While detectives were gathering evidence at that crime scene, their colleagues were called over to Waltham Park Road where a 22-year-old man, Sharif Ferguson, otherwise called ‘Terron’, a Labourer of Harvey Road, was shot and killed just minutes into Thursday.
Hours later, another man, Stephen Lloyd Buchanan, a 54-year-old unemployed resident of 35 Lane off Waltham Park Road, was shot and killed.
The Hunts Bay police are investigating the incident.
And on Monday of this week, four persons were shot - one fatally – on Payne Avenue, also in the St. Andrew South Police Division.
The deceased has been identified as Jason Clarke, a 31-year-old resident of Payne Avenue.
Reports are that approximately 7.45 pm, a group of persons was standing in a section of the community when several shots were heard. At the end of the shooting, four people, including a 51-year-old man, were found suffering from gunshot wounds.
They were taken to a hospital, where Clarke was pronounced dead, and the others were treated for their wounds.
