Five prosecuted by the NWC for outstanding balances

With billions of dollars in uncollected revenue the National Water Commission (NWC), is stepping up its efforts to bring delinquent customers to book.

To this end, five residents of Portmore and Spanish Town in St. Catherine were brought before the courts for outstanding balances totalling some $7.5 million during the month of October by the state-owned utility.

The NWC says three other persons opted to settle their debts which amounted to $600,000 in an effort to avoid court proceedings.

The water utility says that over a three-month period it has so prosecuted over 50 people in its eastern division, having strengthened its compliance departments to go after the billions owed in revenue.
