Five JSE stocks double tumble

Salada Foods and four other stocks suffered double-digit declines in Thursday's trading of the Jamaica Stock Exchange (JSE).

Salada Foods Jamaica Ltd (SALF) declined by 19.70 per cent to close at $8.03; Barita Investments went down 16 per cent; Consolidated Bakeries down 14 per cent, Berger Paints down 11 per cent and Main Event down 11 per cent.

PROVEN's preference shares led gains, up 9.78 per cent to close at $5.50

The JSE Combined Index declined by 153.67 points (0.06 per cent) to close at 268,777.09. The JSE Index declined by 230.27 points (0.09 per cent) to close at 255,619.55. The Junior Market Index advanced by 5.46 points (0.18 per cent) to close at 3,098.90. The JSE USD Equities Index advanced by 3.69 points (2.06  per cent) to close at 182.58.

Overall Market activity resulted from trading in 51 stocks of which 22 advanced, 27 declined and two traded firm. 

Market volume amounted to 6,968,082 units valued at over $76,262,761.49. 138 Student Living Jamaica Limited was the volume leader with 1,589,048 units (22.80 per cent) followed by Jamaica Producers Group Ltd. with 1,090,652 units (15.65 per cent) and Jamaica Money Market Brokers Ltd 7.50 per cent with 745,140 units (10.69 per cent).
