Firearm holder recovering after ‘wild west’ gunfight in Portmore
The sharp-shooting licensed firearm holder who was himself shot and injured in Wednesday night's gunfight with three armed men in Portmore, St Catherine, is reportedly in stable condition after undergoing surgery on Thursday morning.
"He already did surgery and he is now stable. They will keep him sedated for another 30 hours, and then do another minor surgery," a source told Loop News reporter Claude Mills.
Residents of Armada Courts (located opposite the Forum Hotel complex on Port Henderson Road) in Portmore are saying the encounter was like a scene out of the 'Gunfight at the OK Corral'. When the smoke had cleared, the licensed firearm holder had shot and killed three men in repelling a reported attack at his home.
The firearm holder, who was also hit in the exchange, was hospitalised.
The Corporate Communications Unit (CCU), the Jamaica Constabulary Force’s (JCF) information arm, confirmed the incident, and said that a Beretta 9mm pistol and 17 rounds of ammunition were recovered at the scene.
"Reports are that there was a robbery attempt at the home of a licensed firearm holder in Portmore last night at about 9:30 p.m. He pulled up in his driveway and he was shot, but was able to return fire and killed three of his attackers. He is now in serious condition," a representative of the CCU said Thursday morning.
Of the deceased men, the source on the ground said: "Two of them died at the spot, while the third man swam across a nearby canal and end up dead over the next side."
Residents of Armada Courts said it was the second such robbery attempt against the licensed firearm holder.
