Fire trucks crash at Sangster Airport, causing runway closure

Two fire trucks crashed while being involved in a training exercise at the Sangster International Airport (SIA) on Monday night, resulting in a temporary shutdown of the runway.

Three firefighters were injured in the collision.

The emergency response officers were taken for treatment at a nearby medical facility, from which at least one has since been released.

In a statement on the matter on Tuesday morning, the SIA said the two trucks were being operated as part of a routine training exercise around 11:30 pm, when they crashed, resulting in the runway being closed.

The SIA said the runway has since been reopened and normal operating conditions have been restored at the airport.

The units were reportedly extensively damaged.
