Another early childhood institution has been built in Portland thanks to the efforts of volunteers from Canada, Food for the Poor and Helping Hands Jamaica Foundation.

A team of 40 volunteers recently constructed the Disciples of Christ Basic School in Hope Bay. The new school includes proper sanitation, an office, a sick bay, fully-equipped kitchen facilities and all the necessary educational modules including child-friendly furniture, playground equipment and fencing.

Member of Parliament for West Portland Daryl Vaz along with Orlando D. Franklin, Canadian Professional Football Player, National Football League; Karl Hale, Founder and Chairman, Helping Hands Jamaica Foundation; Food for the Poor Jamaica  , Executive Director, David Mair officially opened the school.
