For the first time in the 75-year existence of the Jamaica Police Federation, a female cop is to head the organisation which represents rank and file members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF).

Woman Corporal Arlene McBean was on Thursday elected to lead the federation as its new Chairman, at the federation's annual conference at the Moon Palace Hotel in Ocho Rios, St Ann.

Corporal McBean is from the Motorised Patrol Division of the JCF.

She will be supported by an executive team that includes Inspector Sheldon Gordon of the St Andrew North Police Division, who was elected as the General Secretary of the federation.

There were two new members on the new executive, in comparison to the previous executive body.
