Fatal drive-by shooting on Park Lane a day after curfew ends

A man was shot dead and five other persons, including a woman, injured when gunmen carried out a drive-by shooting along Red Hills Road in St Andrew.

Saturday's fatal shooting came just a day after a curfew that was imposed in and around the Park Lane/Hundred Lane area had ended.

The deceased has been identified as 65-year-old Errol Scott, a maintenance worker of Park Lane.

Reports are that about 6:45 p.m., a group of persons was sitting close to a shop playing a game of dominoes when a group of men travelling in a Tiida motorcar drove up.

Police reported that three men got out of the vehicle and opened fire, hitting some persons in the group of domino players and spectators.

The injured persons were taken to hospital, where Scott was pronounced dead and five others were admitted, with one being later released. The other four remain hospitalised.

The shooting follows the curfew in the area after the murder of 34-year-old nail technician, Hasia Fowles, from the Hundred Lane community.

Fowles was the common-law wife of Hundred Lane area leader, Rohan Nelson.

Nelson was among a number of men who were freed of murder charges in connection with the killing of seven persons on 100 Lane in 2001.

Police report that Fowles was sitting on the side of the road with friends when a motorcar was driven up and occupants of the car opened fire, hitting her several times.
