Expect increased rainfall this weekend - Met Office

Isaac is expected to move south of Jamaica as a tropical depression over the weekend, producing unstable weather conditions, according to Meteorological Service Jamaica.

The Met Office has issued a Severe Weather Alert for all parishes valid for Sunday, September 16, 2018 through to Monday, September 17, 2018.

The forecast for the weekend is outbreaks of heavy showers and thunderstorms that are expected to continue over most of the island from Saturday through Monday. Flash flooding is possible over low-lying and flood-prone areas.

Meanwhile, the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM) has alerted all related agencies and Parish Disaster Committees. Emergency Managers, Responders and Volunteers have also been placed on standby. All Parish Emergency Operation Centers have been activated, ODPEM said.

Isaac caused some flooding earlier in Dominica and is forecast to gradually weaken over the next few days. It is presently located about 965 km east-southeast of Kingston, Jamaica.
