Eltham teachers protest school invasion by armed men

Representatives of the Ministry of Education’s regional office and the police met with teachers at Eltham High School in Spanish Town, St Catherine on Monday after a sit-down protest by the educators at the institution.

It is understood that the protest resulted from security concerns by the teachers amid reports that armed men invaded the school compound earlier in the morning.

Reports are that the men entered the premises through a hole in the perimeter fencing, seeking to attack a student of the institution. According to the teachers, the development was a regular occurrence at the school.

It is believed that a fight between two students during morning devotion escalated to the point where one of the combatants reportedly called his community friends, who turned up at the school armed.
