Elderly woman drowns in Trelawny flood waters

An elderly woman, said to be of unsound mind, drowned after being swept away by flood waters in her Trelawny community on Thursday.

The deceased has been identified as 61-year-old Elizabeth Thompson of Barnstaple district in the parish.

Reports from the Falmouth police are that the Fire Brigade was called in to search for the body of Thompson which was washed away by flood waters in Barnstaple on Thursday morning.

The firefighters were assisted by local divers who fished the body from a large pool of water that formed in the community.

The body was removed to the Falmouth Public General Hospital where doctors pronounced Thompson dead.

The Falmouth police are investigating.

There was widespread flooding across Trelawny on Thursday amid heavy rain caused by a frontal system across Jamaica.
