Dysfunctional wins overnight allowance race; Mamdeen reels off triple
Champion trainer Wayne DaCosta's DYSFUNCTIONAL easily beat UNCLE VINNIE and FAYROUZ in Wednesday's overnight allowance at Caymanas Park, clocking 1:39.1 at a mile after finishing fourth in his previous race at five furlongs straight.
DYSFUNCTIONAL raced eighth down the backstretch under jockey Oneil Mullings and started picking off rivals leaving the half-mile.
Running at odds of 7-2, DYSFUNCTIONAL split the duelling pair of UNCLE VINNIE and FAYROUZ a furlong and a half out, sprinting clear inside the last half-furlong for a comfortable victory.
UNCLE VINNIE got the better of FAYROUZ in a battle for second.
Last year's St Leger winner, MARQUESAS, laboured in down the track on his return off a nine-month lay-up and had to be eased by Shane Ellis in the stretch run.
Meanwhile, leading rider, Christopher Mamdeen, continues to dominate the jockeys' standings, reeling off a three-timer, moving to 58 winners,14 clear of fellow apprentice, Reyan Lewis, who easily won the sixth event aboard DYNA'S PRIDE.
Mamdeen opened the 10-race card with 1-2 favourite, ROY ROGERS, before returning to land the fifth and seventh races astride FLY FIRST CLASS and POKER STAR, respectively.
Racing continues at Caymanas Park on Saturday with a10-race card.
