Trainer Richard Azan’s  DUKE has what appears to be an easy assignment in Saturday’s closing event at Caymanas Park, going seven furlongs, a distance similar to two runs prior when he was only beaten by out-of-class SENTIENT.

In his last race, topweight DUKE was outsped at five and a half furlongs by all-the-way winner, FORMAL FASHION, who he allowed 10lb and closed from eighth at the half-mile marker to finish third, beaten by two and a half lengths.

Prior to that run, DUKE got his desired distance, seven and a half furlongs, but was no match for Superstakes and Diamond Mile-placed SENTIENT, who beat him by seven lengths in a fast 1:30.3.

DUKE stayed on for second from classic-placed TRICKY ONE, even though chasing SENTIENT for the remainder of the stretch run.

Having sparkled at exercise, clocking 1:06.2 for five and a half furlongs on Sunday, DUKE has only one speed horse to contend with, UNIVERSAL BOSS, who will try controlling the pace with Barbadian Simon Husbands.

However, DUKE has had the better of UNIVERSAL BOSS in their last three meetings, all at shorter distances, and is expected to stalk his old rival before powering through with Anthony Thomas.

First post for the 11-race card is 11:40 am.
