Driver who fled scene after fatal Trelawny crash behind bars

The driver of a Toyota Coaster bus who on Tuesday fled the scene after the vehicle crashed, killing one passenger and causing injuring to 17 others, surrendered himself to the Falmouth police on Wednesday. 

The deceased has been identified as 40-year-old Jerome McDonald of a Gayle Mount district, St Andrew address.

Reports are that about 4:45 pm on Tuesday a Coaster bus, which plies the route between Montego Bay and Kingston, was  loaded with passengers, heading towards Kingston, when it developed a skip in the vicinity of the Burwood Beach in Trelawny and ran off the road. The accident occurred after a light drizzle.

McDonald and 17 other passengers who suffered injuries were taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead. The driver fled the scene.

Up to Wednesday, two of the injured passengers remained in  hospital. Their injuries are not considered life threatening.

Meanwhile, the bus driver is arrested for causing death by dangerous driving.

The Falmouth police are investigating.
