Digicel kicks off 'Destination Data' at Mandela Park

Digicel Jamaica introduced Destination Data to Jamaicans with a huge promotional show that drew hundreds to Mandela Park in Half-Way Tree on Wednesday for an afternoon filled with fun activities, giveaways and entertainment.

With the energetic 'Fluffy Diva', Miss Kitty, doing MC duties, the telecommunications giant highlighted the new lower data and call rates, which brought cheers from the audience. It was a move that members of the Digicel Jamaica management team said was sparked by feedback from customers.

The Half-Way Tree stop was the first of an islandwide tour for the Digicel Jamaica team seeking to enlighten the public about the new voice and data plan, which starts at $100 and gives 100 megabytes of 4G/LTE data plus 100 on-net minutes for two days.

Other new data and talk bundled offers include 300MB plus 250 minutes for $250 for seven days, 700MB plus 500 minutes for $500 for 15 days, 1.5GB plus 1,000 minutes for $1,000 for 30 days, or 4GB and 2,000 minutes for 30 days. All bundles come with free access to the Play Go app for TV on-the-go, unlimited rollover and no automatic data overage charges.

Data only plans start with 200MB for two days for only $100, 500MB for seven days for $250, or, 1GB for 15 days for $500.

The campaign carries the tagline, 'Big Tings a Gwaan', and during the tour, details about Digicel Jamaica's Valentine Day deals on phones will be also highlighted.

According to marketing manager for Digicel Jamaica, Monique McLeod, Mandela Park was key to the start of the promotion, because of its central location.

She said, "Mandela Park is right in the heart of our customers. It is central. Right in Half-Way Tree and we know that everybody can come and load up, because we are sharing while we are changing by introducing some new plans.

"Our customers have been talking to us and we are listening and, guess what, we are changing. So the data plans are tech savvy, ready and they are there to help the customers," McLeod said.

The Mandela Park promotional tour had Miss Kitty encouraging members of the audience to do a number of fun activities, which enabled them to win either a smartphone or credit. It also had Copper Shot providing music, oftentimes, with Romeish Entertainment providing accompanying dancers.
