(L – R) Managing Director of Grennell’s Driving School, Alfonso Grennel, welcomes Red Stripe’s Communications and Sustainability Executive Tyheissa Williams, representing the Desnoes and Geddes (D&G) Foundation, as the title sponsor at the media launch of Staging of the Jamaica Driver and Traffic Safety Expo.

The D&G Foundation is affirming their commitment to road safety through their partnership with Grennell’s Driving School to present the Jamaica Driver and Traffic Safety Expo for their 10th anniversary.

Red Stripe, through its philanthropic arm the D&G Foundation, has  contributed over $2 million to the event that will promote safe driving practices under the theme “Road Safety Saves” and slogan  “Safer Road Users, Safer Roads.”

Scheduled to take place on Saturday, June 16 at the Ranny Williams Entertainment Centre, the day’s activities will include a road safety march as well as a banner competition held among students.

“We wanted to make this year’s celebration bigger and better and so we ensure to have activities that appeal to everyone. We want to connect with persons in a fun and relatable way so they can better understand that road, traffic and driver safety is important and can be made fun,” noted Alfonso Grennell, managing director of Grennell’s Driving School.

Red Stripe Head of Corporate Affairs, Dianne Ashton-Smith, noted the D&G Foundation’s dedication to the road safety cause, “The D&G Foundation, as part of Red Stripe, has always been an advocate for road safety and responsible alcohol consumption. We are very excited to join the various stakeholders as we all come together to do our part to educate both motorists and pedestrians on how they can make our nation’s roads safer for everyone. We have a very robust responsible drinking campaign, Drink Right, which promotes behaviour change in how persons consume alcohol and discourages underage drinking.”

She continued, “Like this event, this year is also significant for Red Stripe as it marks our 100th anniversary and so it is important that we participate in a big way.”

In expressing his appreciation for foundation’s support Grennell noted, “We are very grateful to have the D&G Foundation as this year’s title sponsor. This partnership will allow us to increase our road safety education resources and amplify our overall efforts at reducing road fatalities and collisions.”

The expo promises to be informative and engaging as various elements of road safety will be on display in the booths. Patrons can look forward to the D&G Foundation sharing about the ‘Have a ride on us’ campaign that reinforces the importance of having a designated driver when attending social events. Through this campaign, the brewing giant provides patrons with vouchers courtesy of On Time Taxi Service.

Red Stripe’s participation in this event is endorsed by The National Road Safety Council (NRSC) and The National Council on Drug Abuse (NCDA). The brewing company has been lauded by these entities for their promotion of road safety practices and responsible drinking initiatives through events such as World Health and Safety Day, which the company recently celebrated, and activities such as “The Movement”, a live theatre production discouraging underage drinking.
