The Department of Correctional Services (DCS) is probing reports that a popular dancehall artiste, reportedly Vybz Kartel, who is incarcerated, was involved in a live stream on the popular social media platform, Instagram, on Thursday night.

According to the DCS in a media release on Friday, should investigations reveal that the reports are correct, sanctions will be imposed on the offending inmate who is serving time at a maximum security correctional centre.

The DCS said it searched the inmate’s cell and the cells adjoining it on Friday morning, and contraband was found and removed.

It is understood that a phone was found in Kartel’s cell.

The DCS said it takes breaches such as these seriously, and efforts are being made to prevent a recurrence.

Kartel has been serving a life sentence for the murder of Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams since April 2014. He was sentenced to serve 35 years before being eligible for parole consideration.
