DaCosta, Nunes continue big battle for trainers' title

Anthony Nunes lead trainers' championship by $127,700.

Anthony Nunes lead trainers' championship by $127,700.

Champion trainer Wayne DaCosta has eight starters on Saturday’s 11-race card at Caymanas Park as he chases arrears of $127,700 behind Anthony Nunes, who is hunting his first title.

The 17-time champion trainer is aiming to ramp up his stakes earnings ahead of next Wednesday’s Jamaica Two-Year-old-Stakes in which Nunes has the top four runners, going after the $2m winner’s purse.

DaCosta has plunged two runners, POKER STAR and WINTER IS COMING, down among claimers. BULLET RAJ recently joined his barn and is running on a lower claim tag than his previous races, completing what appears to be a certain three-timer.

In addition, DaCosta also has SERGEANT RECKLESS , BRANDY, RAMBUNCTIOUS LINKS, first-timer MY LITTLE PRINCESS and RICKY RICARDO with sound chances in their respective races.

Meanwhile, Nunes has APOLLO BAY, TWILIGHT HEROINE, much-improved K J EXPRESS and well-bred debutante, WESTERN WHEELS, in the Sunnyside Stakes, as his main hopes on the programme to maintain his lead.
