DACOSTA CUP: Losing start for Cornwall College in quarter-final round

Cornwall College suffered a big setback to the defence of their ISSA/FLOW daCosta Cup title as they went down 2-1 against Rusea's High on the opening day of quarter-final action on Saturday.

The Group Two match was the second game of a double-header at the Montego Bay Sports Complex. Earlier,  former champions St James High defeated Spot Valley 2-0 in Group One.

The victory by Rusea's High pushed them to three points and the early lead in the group courtesy of goal difference. Lennon High are also on three points, but in second place, following a 1-0 victory over St Mary Technical at the Highgate Community Centre.

Over in Group One, former champions Clarendon College surged to the early lead also by goal difference after scoring a 3-1 victory over Garvey Maceo High at the Juici Beef Complex in Clarendon. St James High are also on three points, but in second position.

Apart from St James High and Clarendon College, two other former champions - St Elizabeth Technical High (STETHS) in Group Three and Dinthill Technical in Group Four - also secured winning starts to the quarter-final round.

STETHS defeated Little London 2-1 at Frome Sports Complex to take the early lead in Group Three; while Dinthill Technical whipped Frome Technical 4-0 at Manchester High, to also take the early lead in their group.

Holmwood Technical (Group Three), Manchester High (Group Four) were also winners on the opening day.
