DACOSTA CUP: Clarendon College, St James aim to get closer to semis

Former champions Clarendon College and St James High will try to get very close to the semifinals of the 2017 ISSA/FLOW daCosta Cup, when the competition resumes with a quarterfinal double-header at St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS).

The quarterfinal round of the competition comprises four groups and only the winner of each group will contest the semifinals.

St James and Garvey Maceo will contest the opening game of the double-header at 2:00 pm. Then at 4:00 pm, Clarendon College will take on Spot Valley in the second game at 4:00 pm.

Both Clarendon College and St James won their opening quarterfinal game on Saturday. Clarendon College, which last won the competition in 2014, beat the 2007 winners Garvey Maceo 3-1 in Clarendon on Saturday; while 2008 champions St James High handed Spot Valley High their first defeat of the season by winning 2-0.

As a result of those victories on Saturday, Clarendon College and St James High will enter the day leading Group One with three points each, while Garvey Maceo and Spot Valley are both on zero.

Wins for both Clarendon College and St James would set up a clash on Saturday at Manchester High to determine the semifinalist from the group.

The winners of the four daCosta Cup quarterfinal groups will also qualify for the FLOW Super Cup and the Ben Francis knockout competition.There is a spot in the Ben Francis knockout for the runners-up of each of the four daCosta Cup quarterfinal group.
