Friday, August 9, is International Coworking Day, and with it comes a flurry of activity surrounding the concept of coworking spaces.

CoWork JA founder, Tara Playfair-Scott is joining the global celebration by giving back to both visitors and members who use her coworking facility at Liguanea Post Mall in Kingston.

Playfair-Scott launched CoWork JA November last year.

As part of the celebrations, CoWork JA is offering 50% off all of their rates this Friday. It is also offering half off lattes all day, prepared by barista Kap, who will double as a bartender in the evening.

The price of their summer cocktails will also be slashed in half. Beer lovers are also covered with 2-4-1 beer specials from 5 pm to 7 pm during the CoWork Happy Hour.

Playfair-Scott noted that she established the coworking facility as an option for entrepreneurs looking to operate a business without encountering high costs of rental, utility, furniture and security, for instance.

"CoWork JA was started for those who feel like they can’t take the many distractions of working from home or constantly searching for that burst of speed on their local coffee shop’s wifi,” Playfair-Scott said.

She added: “Being a part of a community like the one at CoWork JA presents you with the greatest reward for the least investment; you get a proper business address (which will make your business seem more professional than working out of your local coffee shop), high-speed Wifi, meeting rooms and bottomless coffee to fuel your day at a very affordable rate, especially compared to setting up your own space from the ground up."

Coworking is evidence that the way people view work is evolving, and that, in time, the need for the typical corporate building may completely dissolve, she noted.

“So stop by Cowork JA on Friday, August 9 and take a free tour and take advantage of some of the cool perks happening all day as they celebrate their 1st International Coworking Day.”

Launched in November last year, Cowork JA offers meeting rooms, private call and podcast booths as well as a lounge area for entrepreneurs to work in. It also has a coffee bar offering offices.
