Cops seize 360 rounds of ammunition during operation in East Kingston

Members of the island security forces seized 360 rounds of 5.56mm ammunition during an operation carried out in and around sections of Jarrett Lane off Mountain View Avenue in East Kingston on Friday.

Police said 33 men were also held in the raid.

The men were held for question in connection to an ongoing gang fued that has claimed the lives of at-least four persons in the last three weeks. 

Reports are that about 8:15 a.m., the joint security team conducted operations in the Saunders Avenue and Jarrett Lane area, where premises were searched and the ammunition found.

police sources say the calibre of the rounds that were seized is typically used in the M16 assault rifle.

No one was arrested directly in connection with the find, but 33 males were detained for processing in respect to an ongoing flare-up of gang violence in sections of the Eastern Kingston Police Division.

The security forces say they have intensified operations in the East Kingston area to combat the recent flare-up of gang violence there, and are maintaining a strong presence in the area.
