Cops in search of man who fatally shot St Catherine vendor

The Spanish Town police were up to Wednesday still on the hunt for a man for questioning in relation to the shooting death of a vendor at Beacon Hill in St Catherine.

The deceased man has been identified as 24-year-old Omari Smith, otherwise called ‘Jamoy’, of Beacon Hill.

Police reports are that on Saturday at about 10.30 pm, Smith was among patrons playing cards at a gambling house when a man armed with a handgun ambushed them and opened fire.

When the gunfire subsided, Smith was found suffering from bullet wounds.

He was assisted to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Up to the weekend, police statistics revealed that 997 Jamaicans had been killed across the country since the start of the year.
