Cops looking at several leads after deadly attack on doctor
Police say they are also looking into allegations made by sources from the area that the doctor was the victim of another robbery carried out less than two weeks ago at the same location where he would eventually lose his life.
Sources have told Loop News that in the attack that reportedly took place the first week of March, the doctor was held up and robbed of cash and other items. Sources claimed he was not physically harmed at the time.
On Friday, that would not be the case, as shortly after 5:00 pm, Dr Garth Officer drove up to his home and was attacked by two men travelling on a motorcycle. He was shot several times by the men, who then made their escape from the area. The doctor was rushed to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police say since the death of the doctor a number of claims have begun to circulate. Police say one of the claims that they have made checks into is that, a day before he was killed, the doctor went to an ID parade to identify one of the persons who reportedly attacked him two weeks ago. Police have since dismissed the reports as false.
“There is no truth to those reports that he was at an ID parade a day before he was killed,” Superintendent Jacqueline Green told Loop News during an interview late Saturday.
Police have however warned that they will leave no stones unturned in their quest to bring the attackers to justice. The death of the doctor has left several Jamaicans in shock.
