The police have taken into custody a man who allegedly shot a relative of his and led the police in a high-speed chase in Kingston on Thursday afternoon in the company of six of his young children.

The incident reportedly began around 12:30 pm, with the father leaving his Gordon Town home and going to Allman Town, where he allegedly shot at a relative of his who had reportedly scolded one of his children. This was in the presence of six of the man’s children, who departed the scene with him in a Suzuki Vitara SUV.

Following the shooting, the SUV was intercepted by the police on nearby South Camp Road, based on a report of the gunfire in Allman Town, but the father sped away from the cops and eventually crashed into a number of vehicles near the intersection of South Camp Road and North Street.

A 9mm pistol with live rounds of ammunition was recovered from the bag of the eldest child in the vehicle, and the father, who ran from the scene, was subsequently held by the police.

Both the man, who is believed to be a music industry figure, and the 16-year-old son in whose possession the gun was reportedly found, are being held while an investigation into the overall incident unfolds.
