The policeman who was shot dead by gunmen in Rollington Town, East Kingston on Wednesday morning, has been identified.
He is Constable Toddmar Allen, who was assigned to the Mobile Reserve.
The Police High Command, in a release, identified the deceased policeman and condemned his murder.
“The High Command extends its deepest condolences to the family, colleagues and friends of Constable Allen. Allen was an outstanding officer who served the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) for over 12 years,” the high command’s letter said.
“No effort will be spared in bringing Constable Allen’s killer(s) to justice. All resources will be given in this investigation,” added the high command.
The body said it is also encouraging all members of the JCF to remain vigilant in respect to their personal safety.
“The Police will continue working hard to prevent senseless acts of violence like these, and we seek the further support of all law-abiding citizens to reverse the culture of violence in our island,” the high command said.
The body also gave assurance that “the police will not be deterred in our efforts to enforce law and order and build safer communities.”
They are appealing to the public to reject acts of violence and provide the police with actionable information to prevent crimes and bring perpetrators to justice.
Constable Allen was among patrons at a bar close to the Rollington Town Police Station in the Kingston 2 area at about 12:15 a.m. on Wednesday, when two men armed with guns approached and opened fire at him.
