Cop among four arrested for illegal gun in Range Rover

Four persons including a police constable were on Thursday arrested after an illegal firearm was found in the vehicle in which they were travelling.

Reports are that at about 4:30 am, a police patrol team saw a Range Rover traveling along Spanish Town Road and signaled the driver to pull over.

Police said, after the vehicle stopped, one man alighted and identified himself as a police constable.

The man was reportedly asked to produce his identification card but he told members of the police team that he left it at home.

The man was asked if he had a firearm and he said yes.

Police said the man was asked to produce the weapon, but he said he had also left it at home.

However, the police then reportedly carried out a search of the vehicle and found an illegal firearm - a 9mm pistol - and one round of ammunition.

The man and the other three occupants of the vehicle - one man who hails from a Spanish Town address and two females - were subsequently arrested.

The suspect has since been confirmed to be a cop.

The Hunts Bay Police are investigating the matter.
