Jamaican woman caught hiding ganja in vagina at Barbados airport

A Jamaican woman pleaded guilty to drug-related offences in Barbados on Wednesday after being caught with ganja at the Grantley Adams International Airport in Barbados last week.

She has been identified as 35-year-old, Alicia Tamara Beckford.

The Royal Barbados Police Force report that, on Sunday, January 21, Beckford arrived on the island by air from Jamaica via Trinidad.

Having cleared immigration, she was reportedly interviewed by police and a subsequent search revealed that she had a condom filled with ganja concealed in her vagina.

A further search reportedly revealed that she was also in possession of counterfeit currency.

She was subsequently transported to the hospital, where she passed out 39 packages each containing ganja, the police said, adding that, in total, the drug weighed one kilogram.

Beckford was arrested and charged with possession of cannabis; possession with intent to supply; trafficking; importation; and possession of counterfeit currency; 

On Wednesday, she appeared before Magistrate Laurie-Ann Smith-Bovell and pleaded guilty to the drug-related offences.

She was fined eight thousand Barbadian dollars for the offence of importation of cannabis and was convicted, reprimanded and discharged for the other offences.

She was not required to plea to the offence of possession of counterfeit currency.
