Claiming apprentice Anthony Allen notches double at Caymanas Park
Rejuvenated claiming apprentice, Anthony Allen, was among three jockeys notching two-timers at Caymanas Park on Saturday.
Allen, who had a disappointing first year in the saddle, rode his first two-timer, GENUINE TRAIN in the seventh and EYE CANDY to close the 11-race card.
Allen's two-timer, his first-ever, moved his career tally to eight winners, four of which were recorded this season, a turnaround in fortunes for the young rider, who started out in September 2018 among the batch of apprentices from which Christopher Mamdeen rose to become last year's champion jockey.
Aboard GENUINE TRAIN in the seventh, Allen straightened third astride the 2-1 chance and led a half-furlong out past PURE HEART.
Allen rode a perfect race aboard 5-2 shot EYE CANDY, going all the way with the Dennis Lee-trained mare to beat 46-1 outsider, BALTUSROL, winning by a length and three-quarter at six furlongs.
Anthony Thomas and Reyan Lewis also had two winners apiece. Thomas made all with SOUL CURE at 7-2 in the second race, a five-and-a-half furlong event.
He returned aboard MONEY CALL to outfinish JUSTSAYTHEWORD in the 10th.
Lewis easily won aboard champion trainer Anthony Nunes' 1-2 favourite, TRICKY ONE, in the third, before outfinishing rivals with 6-1 chance, SURE STEP, going three furlongs straight in the sixth.
Racing continues at Caymanas Park on Saturday.
