Over 3,500 children from financially challenged circumstances are set to benefit from the 11th annual back-to-school fair hosted by the Hope Gospel Assembly Church.

Geared at providing school supplies including backpacks with notebooks, pencils, pens and book vouchers, the church also presents scholarships each year to children of low-income communities in the Barbican and Liguanea areas – Sandy Park, Stand Pipe, August Town, Hermitage and in Waterhouse and Trench Town.

Accepting a sponsorship cheque from the CIBC FirstCaribbean International Bank Rev. Peter O. Garth, Senior Pastor, Associated Gospel Assemblies said “we thank CIBC FirstCaribbean International Bank for supporting us for the fourth consecutive year.  Together, we can address some of the critical education needs of the more vulnerable within our society and demonstrate to them that there are those who care.”

Rev. Garth noted that they have “received calls from St. Thomas, Trench Town and Rocky Point for assistance and it is their desire to respond.   This year’s theme is ‘Excellence is Achievable’ and we want the kids to think and feel positive about their success”, he declared.

Nigel Holness, Managing Director of CIBC FirstCaribbean noted that “the bank is not just focused on providing financial solutions for its customers but practices corporate social responsibility and each year, carves out a portion of profits to give back to the communities we serve.”

Holness said that “it is a proud moment when we can stand in support of initiatives like these.  Thank you for all you do to help Jamaica move in the right direction.”
