CIBC FirstCaribbean International Bank has again joined the National Blood Transfusion Service (NBTS) in a concerted effort to boost annual collections for Jamaica.

Employees, friends and family, customers and persons from neighbouring businesses participated in a “Blood Drive” at the bank’s head office at 23 Knutsford Boulevard, Kingston on May 4, 2018.

Nigel Holness, Managing Director of CIBC FirstCaribbean, first donor of the day, said that “blood is one of the most precious gifts that anyone can give to another person.”

Noting that “a decision to give blood can save a life or make treatment more effective”, Holness said that “sick or injured, persons from all walks of life benefit daily from blood transfusions and it is the duty of those who are well to ensure a steady supply of blood is available to them.”

He said that “those in need of blood may include persons undergoing serious surgeries, women with complications of pregnancy, young patients suffering from anaemia and those battling cancer.” Holness said that he hoped that other corporations, organizations and schools would also “support the NBTS’ drive and ensure we never have a blood shortage in Jamaica.”
