A charity caring for vulnerable Jamaicans recently received much-needed support both for its clients as well as for their caregivers.

A donation of funds by CIBC FirstCaribbean to the Jamaica AIDS Support for Life (JAS), has been earmarked for care packages for persons living with HIV/AIDS and the purchase of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for employees of three facilities run by JAS across Jamaica.

Nigel Holness, Managing Director of the bank noted, “a number of non-governmental organisations are struggling to provide their usual services to their communities because of the COVID-19 pandemic. We are particularly pleased to contribute to the work of the JAS which is doing a tremendous job in the fight against HIV/AIDS.”

Mickel Jackson of the JAS said “we are very thankful for these funds which will help us in preparing care packages of perishable items and hygiene products for clients including at-risk populations - persons living with HIV/AIDS and women in violent situations. COVID-19 has really exposed the vulnerabilities and many structural issues including the challenges of our children accessing distance learning and we are doing all we can to help them”.

Founded in 1991, the JAS is Jamaica’s oldest AIDS- focused human rights NGO dedicated to preserving the dignity and rights or persons living with HIV/AIDS and helping to control and reduce the spread of the illness by providing education and other interventions.

The JAS is among several organizations that have benefitted from donations from CIBC FirstCaribbean to assist them in navigating challenges.
