Bayer Leverkusen have turned down a £22 million bid for Jamaican winger Leon Bailey from Chelsea.

According to reports, the Premier League champions had sent scouts to look at the 20-year-old Bailey in a game against Stuttgart last Friday.

The Jamaican impressed in the game by setting up both goals in a 2-0 victory against Stuttgart.

Bailey is considered one of the brightest young stars in the Bundesliga and has been heavily scouted by Chelsea and other clubs this season.

Chelsea have followed the progress of Bailey since he moved to Europe from Jamaica as a 15-year-old.

Chelsea's interest comes  even before the opening of the January transfer window.

Bailey had also been linked with Manchester United, Roma, Everton and Ajax over the past few months before Bayer Leverkusen signed him from Genk for a transfer fee believed to be in the region of €15 million at the end of January.

Bailey has scored five goals in all competitions this season and has added another four assists in those games.

He can play on either side of the pitch.
