Charlie Smith beat Meadowbrook on Day 1 of Digicel Manning Cup

Charlie Smith High started their campaign in the 2018 Digicel Manning Cup schoolboy football competition positively by defeating Meadowbrook 4-1 in a Group C fixture on Saturday at Chanchery Street, Meadowbrook.

Goals by Bebeto Reid in the eight minute, captain Kemoy Bailey in the 16th, Renaldo Cephas in the 63rd and Trivante Stewart in the 79th secured the victory for Charlie Smith, the two-time champions of the competition. Meadowbrook got their goal from Rusean McFarqhar in the 24th minute.

Charlie Smith opened the scoring when a left-side corner was swung in towards goal with the right foot of Garfield Rennicks and Reid beat his markers to the penalty spot, to head over goalkeeper Renaldo Williams.

They doubled their score minutes later, through another attack down the left flank that was switch to the right, before the ball eventually landed at the feet of Bailey, who powered from just inside the 18-yard.

Meadowbrook reduced the deficit to 2-1 when McFarqhar, provided one of their inspirational moment, when he fired an excellent free-kick from just outside the 18-yard box to the left and out of the reach of goalkeeper Tuishane Edwards.

Meadowbrook would push at the start of second half, but their pressure was soon nullified by Charlie Smith, which went 3-1 ahead through Cephas.

It resulted from a Meadowbrook attack that was broken up midway their own half and a quick combination on the right, involving three Charlie Smith players, had Cephas collecting slightly on the left of the area, to fire past goalkeeper Williams.

Charlie Smith wrapped up the scoring from a quick counter, that had Stewart powering just inside the box on the right to fire high over Williams.
