Carlong Publishers to boost local libraries’ stock with 1,000 books

Carlong Publishers (Caribbean) Limited will donate 1,000 copies of their children’s books to the Jamaica Library Service (JLS) and School Library Network in a formal ceremony next Wednesday at the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Library.

In recognition of the 70th anniversary of the Jamaica Library Service, and the 30th anniversary of the JLS National Reading Competition, Chairman of Carlong Publishers Shirley Carby, has committed to fostering the reading habit by increasing the inventory of the country’s libraries with children’s books written by Caribbean authors for Caribbean children.

A total of 500 books will be presented to the JLS and 500 books to the School Library Network, valued at over $650,000. The donation will include 200 copies of five children’s books published by Carlong as a part of their children’s series, the Sand Pebbles Pleasure Series and the Bintah series.

Carlong makes ongoing donations to the JLS annual reading competition and major donations at milestone anniversary celebrations by the JLS. Carlong will continue this partnership in order to ensure that children islandwide have access to and can enjoy stories promoting Caribbean culture and customs, transforming them into lifelong readers.

The donation ceremony will be held inside the Joyce Robinson Reading Room at the Kingston and St. Andrew Parish Library located at 2 Tom Redcam Drive, Kingston 5 on November 28, 2018 at 11 a.m
