Nearly $40 million worth of Carib Cement shares traded to dominate volumes during Wednesday’s trading of the Jamaica Stock Exchange (JSE).

One million units traded in the Carib Cement resulting in the stock dipping 5.8 per cent to close at an even $39. It was the largest trading activity in the stock in two months.

The day's top advancing stocks went to Pulse up 27 per cent to close at $2.95 with 25,000 units trading. It was followed by Barita up 7.5 per cent to close at $9.00 with 500,000 units.

Meanwhile, the day’s top declining stock went to Berger Paints down 7.0 per cent to $19.61.

The JSE Combined Index declined by 705.35 points (0.22 per cent) to close at 314,854.84. The JSE Index declined by 660.48 points (0.21 per cent) to close at 306,596.88. The Junior Market Index declined by 8.96 points (0.30 per cent) to close at 3,020.98. The JSE USD Equities Index advanced by 0.09 points (0.06 per cent) to close at 139.65.

Overall Market activity resulted from trading in 46 stocks of which 18 advanced, 18 declined and 10 traded firm.

Market volume amounted to 4,177,954 units valued at over $78.3 million. Caribbean Cement Company Ltd. was the volume leader with 1,003,349 units (24.0 per cent ) followed by Lasco Distributors Limited with 825,000 units (19.8 per cent ) and Barita Investments Limited with 500,653 units (12.0 per cent ) .
