Campesino wins Reggae Trophy

CAMPESINO powered past the battling pair of TALENTED TONY K and KING D to win Saturday's 1000-metre straight Reggae Trophy at Caymanas Park.

TALENTED TONY K had beaten CAMPESINO in the May 27 Lotto Sprint and was hoping to close a hat-trick of wins but weakened after setting fast splits of 22.2 and 45.4 to the last furlong.

CAMPESINO, a chance ride for two-kilo claiming apprentice Dane Dawkins, closed strongly to hit the front. Late-closing SEEKING MY DREAM stayed on best of the rest for second in his first run this season.

Sent off at odds of 3-2, CAMPESINO clocked 59.2, beating SEEKING MY DREAM by two-and-a-half lengths.

GARY GLITTER finished third,  a length ahead of fourth-place KING D while TALENTED TONY K weakened to finish last in the five-horse field.

However, TALENTED TONY K's  trainer, Patrick Lynch, topped his peers with three winners on the 11-race card - ACAPULCO, SWEET DIMENSION and DWAYNE STAR in the fourth,  eighth and ninth events,  respectively.

Aaron Chatrie was the day's top rider, booting home two of Lynch's winners - ACAPULCO and SWEET DIMENSION.

Racing continues at Cayamanas Park on Tuesday, Emancipation Day.
