Cabbie who set house ablaze with family, gets 15 years in prison

A taxi operator who set fire to his house while his common-law-wife and four children were inside has been convicted of arson and sentenced to 15 years' imprisonment.

The prison term was handed down to Devon Fisher when he appeared in the Home Circuit Court on Thursday.

Fisher lit the house two years agoi in an attempt to avoid being arrested by the police for a robbery.

Reports are that in January 2017, law enforcers went to Fisher's home in Bayshore Park, Harbour View, St Andrew to take him into custody.

But he refused to be apprehended, and instead threatened to kill himself and his family. During an ensuing standoff, he set the house ablaze.

The police were able to remove Fisher and his family from the burning building.

He was subsequently charged by the police.
