Businesswoman shot dead in St Mary

Police investigators are searching for a lone gunman who shot and killed a 33-year-old female shopkeeper as she walked home in St Mary on Wednesday night.

The death of the businesswoman has brought the murder tally in the parish to 23 since the start of the year, two more than the 21 murders that were recorded there for the entire year 2017.

The deceased woman has been identified as Lynsay Silvera, otherwise called ‘Cuffie-Ann’, of Wellington, St Mary.

Reports are that at about 9:25 p.m., Silvera closed her shop in the neighbouring community of Top Pen and was walking home along the Wellington roadway in the company of other persons.

An armed man then approached the group and opened gunfire, hitting Silvera.

The other persons were left unharmed, as the gunman fled the scene.

The police were alerted and Silvera, who was found lying in a pool of blood, was rushed to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Robbery has so far been ruled out as a possible motive behind the attack.

Police investigations are ongoing into the incident.
