Bushfire continues to burn in Hope Pastures

Firefighters are now in sections of Hope Pastures, St Andrew battling a bush fire that is threatening to damage properties in the area.

Jamaica Fire Brigade Public Relations Officer Emilio Ebanks said reports of the blaze were made to the Jamaica Fire Brigade at about midday Tuesday.

He said firefighters from York Park and Half Way Tree are monitoring the situation.

Four fire units have reportedly been used on location in the effort to extinguish the blaze. The Jamaica Defence Force has also assisted in the efforts through the use of one of its helicopters.

There have been no reports of any injuries but smoke from the blaze is causing some level of unease for some St Andrew residents, firefighters said.

The fire has reportedly been partially contained but there are growing concerns as some sections of the area are not accessible.
