The police have issued an advisory to motorists that an oil tanker caught fire at a section of the Edward Seaga Highway in the vicinity of the Linstead exit on Wednesday afternoon, and was significantly hampering traffic flow into the evening.

As a result of the fire, the affected section of the highway has been locked down to facilitate emergency responders dealing with the situation.

Motorists using the highway heading towards St Ann were advised to use the alternative routes through Linstead.

Similarly, motorists heading towards St Catherine were urged to divert through Fern Gully and Moneague, respectively.

The police have urged motorists to obey the instructions of police officers in the area while the fire department carries out cooling down operations.
