British national charged for ganja find at Sangster airport

Detectives from the Border Security Branch arrested and charged a male under the Dangerous Drugs Act at the Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay, St James on Thursday.

The accused is 58-year-old Ian Mowbray of Birmingham, England.

He was arrested and charged with possession of ganja, dealing in ganja and attempting to export ganja.

Reports are that about 2:20 p.m., Mowbray checked in to board a flight destined for Brussels. During processing, a canine detected irregularity in the chute area and his luggage was escorted to the gate area, where it was searched.

The luggage was found to contain a false compartment, which had a package containing ganja weighing eight ounces, which was seized.

Mowbray was arrested and charged.

He is scheduled to appear in the St James Parish Court on Thursday, June 21.
