Break-up reportedly behind murder/suicide in St Andrew on Friday

Reports are emerging that the woman who was shot and killed by a man who is said to her common-law husband, in the Whitehall Avenue area of St Andrew on Friday, was gunned down because she decided to end the intimate relationship between them.

Sources claimed that the woman had decided to move out of the house where she and her common-law husband were staying.

The man reportedly responded by fatally shooting the woman, then taking his own life, the police reported.

The deceased woman has been identified as ‘Suzanne’, a resident of Whitehall Avenue, while the man who carried out the attack was identified as Gary Puranda, a 49-year-old resident of Chestervale Avenue in Kingston.

Reports are that about 10:00 p.m., the couple was at a premises in Whitehall Avenue, when an argument developed between them.

It was reported that during the heated exchange, the man pulled his licensed firearm and shot the woman. Minutes later, he shot and killed himself.

Police were called to the area by residents who heard the explosions.

A search was conducted and the bodies of the two were found.

The killings come less than two weeks after a businessman chased and shot dead a 22-year-old woman and then killed himself, in St James.
