Brave truck driver disarms and sends robbers packing
A truck driver is being praised in the Golden Grove area of St Ann for his bravery after he managed to disarm one of two gunmen who attempted to rob him of his truck laden with goods in the community over the weekend.
A 9mm pistol with a magazine containing five 9mm rounds of ammunition was subsequently handed over to the police.
Reports are that about 6:50 a.m. on Saturday, the truck driver was transporting goods to Hopewell in Hanover, when on reaching the Golden Grove main road, two men armed with guns walk out into the road.
Reports are that the men fired two shots into the air.
The driver reported being forced to stop the vehicle, following which he was held up at gunpoint, and relieved of the motor truck.
But he had ideas on his mind, and went into action while the men were about to drive the vehicle from the scene of the robbery.
In the process, he managed to disarm one of the robbers of a firearm.
When the two robbers realised what was happening, they seemingly panicked and sped off in the truck.
That panic did not seem to end there, as the truck was later found abandoned along the same roadway with its contents intact.
