Body with wounds found floating in river in Westmoreland

Detectives assigned to the Westmoreland Police Division are probing the circumstances surrounding the death of a man, whose decomposing body was found in the Roaring River in Whithorn in the parish on Saturday, July 14.

The body is of brown complexion, medium built, about 170 (five feet seven inches) long. It was clad in a red and brown shorts, and is believed to be in its mid-50s.

Reports from the Whithorn police are that about 9:40 a.m., residents stumbled upon the body afloat and alerted them.

On their arrival, the body was seen afloat in the river with multiple wounds.

It was fished from the water and the scene processed.

Following the discovery, the police are asking anyone with information which can assist them in their investigation, and to identify the body, to contact the Savanna-la-Mar CIB at 876-955-2758, the police 119 emergency number, or the nearest police station.
