It's part of the American newspaper's 10Best Readers' Choice Awards. The Bob Marley Museum in Kingston leads the "Best Caribbean Attraction" category ahead of 19 other nominees including Dunn's River Falls and Mystic Mountain in St Ann, the only other Jamaican attractions on the list.
"Bob Marley is synonymous with Jamaica, and it is virtually impossible to leave the island without hearing his music. The Bob Marley museum is situated on the site of his home, which he lived in until his death in 1981. The house features 19th-century architecture, and the main museum displays Marley's personal treasures," reads the caption accompanying the museum's nomination.
St Nicholas Abbey greathouse in Barbados, the Botanical Gardens of Nevis, Loterie Farm in Saint Martin and El Yunque National Forest in Puerto Rico rounds out the top five spots on the leaderboard. Dunn's River Falls is currently placed at #6 while Mystic Mountain is positioned at #16.
Reggae legend Bob Marley's son, Ziggy urged his fans through his social media page to cast their vote for the museum.
"If you have been (to the museum) and enjoyed your experience, show some Love and cast your vote at http://bit.ly/topcaribdestination_marley," Ziggy wrote.
According to USA Today, travel experts select the top 20 nominees in contests covering food, lodging, destinations, travel gear, things to do etc, and then it's up to readers to select the winners from that list.
Among the other Jamaica-based nominees are Scotchies in Montego Bay for "Best Restaurant" in the Caribbean; and Sandals Royal Plantation in Ocho Rios, GoldenEye in Oracabessa and The Tryall Club in Montego Bay for "Best Caribbean Resort".
