The Marine Police says the boat that persons saw going underwater close to the Kingston Harbour on Friday afternoon, had been left there about a week ago by its owners.

"Reports we received were that the owners of the boat were travelling close to the harbour when they ran into difficulties and were forced to abandon the vessel,” said an officer from the division.

“The owners returned to the area after receiving reports that the boat was sinking, and where trying to salvage what they could from the vessel before it went underwater," added the officer.

Reports are that about 3:30 p.m., persons hanging out at the harbour, along with others from sections of high-rise buildings in the area, saw a group of fishermen trying to pull in the sinking boat, and alerted the authorities.

The boat, which was totally submerged but could be seen underwater from above the location, was eventually hauled ashore.

The Marine Police representative said after checks were made at the scene, it was established that no one was injured in the incident.
