Teika Samuda has been a traveller all her life. She’s been on countless road trips with her family as a young girl and countless more as an adult.

So it was natural for her to venture into a field she loved after leaving her corporate job after 16 years.

Samuda is the principal consultant of Being Jamaican, a tour agency offering authentic Jamaican experiences.

The newly minted entrepreneur curates packages, which includes transportation, accommodations and excursions with a focus on hidden gems.

“We focus on taking people off the beaten path. We take them into the nooks and crannies of the island to see the other side of Jamaica,” Samuda said.

Though Samuda has forged partnerships with tour operators and managers of various attractions across the island, she operates Being Jamaican on her own.

“I handle the administration, the marketing – everything,” Samuda said.

She pointed out, however, that the relationships formed on the road have been hugely beneficial.

“The places that I take people for excursions are the places I have always visited. So I feel comfortable taking people into these places,” Samuda said, noting that the partnerships also ensure the safety and security of her clients.
